User talk:Auri
From AEWiki
Auri: I don't know what the point of the User Talk function is, but I'm assuming it's where people write things about me... be gentle, it's my first time!

[edit] Welcome
Welcome Auri,
It's always great to have new energy infused into the wiki. It's sad but true that I don't get around to much updating myself. But I still keep my eyes open. And we do have a few people who tend to contribute in bursts when they find the time. I'm certainly open to any ideas you might have. We can discuss them here or by e-mail is my username at wolfbound.com. We're glad to have ya!
I don't know how to use the "talk" feature myself but it's good to have you Auri. And, haha *points at self* about people who contribute in "bursts". :p
[edit] Gathering information
As Johorne already stated above, it's good to see people still using the wiki. I've always loved the idea and even contributed some articles, but due to lack of time and sometimes interest, I haven't really made any big progress.
However, from what I've gathered you are willing to spend hours and hours to gather information to the wiki. I have a better idea. Why not use information that other sites, such as aeauction.com have? About a year ago I sent email to Telarin, the founder of AEauction.com and asked wether it'd be possible:
[edit] What I asked:
Hello, Telarin. I'm not a member of this site, but that's just because I'm lazy. But I do use the information your website provides us all AE gamers frequently.
I'm also a supporter of AEWiki. I just wanted to ask if I could use the item database(+ the images) & bestiary you have here to contribute to AEWiki. It's OK, if you don't want to permit me. Then I'll just have to do it the hard way and the find the information from the game myself.
You see AEWiki is something fantastic and I'd like to someday see it having all the info about Ashen Empires.
I doubt that, although I'd put all the information from your site to AEWiki, this site would lose it's poplarity. It's an auction, and from the number of auctions going on even at this moment you can tell the popularity of this site.
However, I won't "steal" a single piece of information from your site without your permission.
Whatever you're going to decide, Merry (late)Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Yours, sincerely, Shaein
[edit] What he answered:
All the information on AEAuction really belongs to IWG, so you're welcome to copy whatever data and images you want. However, as far as I know, Wikis don't have the capability to support searching and sorting of databases like AEAuction does, so the best you could hope for is a series of flat lists. It might be better to simply link back to the AEAuction item database. But that is of course up to you.
[edit] You're right
Of course you're right. To some extent, at least. I do think the wiki is the best way of presenting information on the game. And when it comes to the reliability of the information on AEAuction for example, it is very reliable. It is user-submitted and then manually accepted.
But yes, I agree with you, the most important thing is to gather new information to the wiki rather than fill it with the information other sites already have. Its just that I hope AEWiki will, in time, contain the information from those sites aswell.
