There is that one quest guide out there, think we should just cut and paste that into here?

Nope, because the content that we contribute should be GNU Free Documentation License (that license at the bottom of the edit page). It looks like we could perhaps ask ArchDuke, the guy who's mostly responsible for the quest guide I think you refer to. But I'm pretty sure he's not going to be interested. [edit] Valinor Multiple Opportunity Quests

The Captain of the Guard quest tree was rather beautifully formatted. I was thinking of going through some of the others and modeling them after it, lending some uniformity to the guide. Any objections? -- Andy 15:51, 29 May 2010 (PDT)

[edit] How to organize quest guide?

Having the guide in a more organized way would be nice. Nothing to object in principle. However there are a few problems:

1. All the Wiki needs reordering, including the quest guide. I would like to see it going from the general areas to the detail. Question is what is more general what is detail. Should maps have own category or be included in a detailed guide? and so on.

2. Not everybody would like it the same way, ofc. I can see a few diferent ways to have a quest:

a) a text description of the quest, like that Captain quest, with or without accessory info about rewards, difficulty, maybe some image of monster, npc, or item

b) Dialogs from npc, with choices, in text format.

c) Screenshots of the dialogs and places.

d) graphically guide of quest with map and arrows, legends or other info included in image(like Leahs guides)

3. The list of quests is already big, between 110 -150 quests. Every update brings more of them. Not all are here but they will, eventually. . How can we have a minimum of consistency between guides? Its a lot of work. That means option d) is almost out of question, who would make 100 graphical guides, just to be told the quest has changed and having to do it all again. The easiest way is to post the partial(edited) screenshots of the dialogs. They are really needed as sometimes that info is essential, like some coded talk from npc in abbey or dragons. Its easy to put the dialogs in text if you want. Is it possible to combine the a) option with any of b) or c) ? In my opinion that would be ideal, combined with links to other pages when justified, like a link to a map or description of a place or monster. An example is the page with Guild quests.

4. Grouping of quests can be another difficulty. Valinor quests are more easy to group, they are all near each other and for same players. The rest can be harder. We have a mix of quest type group and expansion group. How can we do it? Some expansions included quests in Mainland that dont need expansions. Where to put them?

Concluding, Guide need organization, uniformity if possible, easy edition and, that is important, some way of collapsing guide as its growing and TOC will not be enough.

Worc

I was considering a few things.

A) The town idea works to an extent, but it's going to get bloated and confusing quickly. I want to switch up the quest guide a bit, maybe split the beginning/intermediate/difficult into seperate pages so depending on your level, people can section off in the guide to certain places and make it easier to find quests applicable to them. What do you think?

B) The repeatable quests are annoying, and I don't see a need for them here. I vote we make a seperate page for them.

On a last side note: I don't know exactly how to do the screenshots here. I'm glad to help if you send me a link to a guide or just explain it to me. I like the setup of the captain one as well, tried to model my posts as best as I can after it. Also, I think graphics should only be of NPC's that are important or places of importance. Dialogue will more than likely get changed or altered, and that means we have to keep up with it. And, as it seems right now, we're the only 2 working on this guide and that's a lot on our plate right now.

We do need maps included, but probably in a section to themselves.

I'll work on the collapsing idea, see if I can find something we can use. SquallCentra

Worc

I've noticed it popping up too. Been trying to delete. I'm not sure where it's coming from but it's annoying for sure.
