Sextant

A sextant is a tool usually available in the provisioner shops. Clicking the sextant in your backpack will yield the following comment in the main chatbox: "You are at location (0000, 0000). The first number tells you your location along the longitude (eastwest) line of the Ashen Empire world, and the second number tells you your location along the latitude line. As some have painfully discovered, there is no ingame map for underground areas. If you die is such places the sextant may be the only way to return to your body for recovery. Later the sextant will also be useful if ships and sailing ever come into the game. Sextants are also a good way to tell someone else exactly where something is located, i.e., fine wood trees, portals, spawngates, or cave entrances.

An interesting side note about sextant locations is that the location right outside the entrance to many caves and crypts may be substantially different from the location just inside the cave or crypt. Therefore if you are providing sextant readings for these places, you should be sure to give both the Outside and Inside readings unless they are the same.
