The Potion of Tanning can be used to tan hides (with the tanning skill) without having to be at a Tanning Vat. An important thing to note about Potions of Tanning is that they do not stack but can be "combined." If you have two potions of tanning and use one on the other, a new potion of tanning will be created that has the combined total remaining uses of the both old potions.
