This is the Book 2 quest as documented by Apache on Legends Server, assisted by Jane Fox. March, 2005
Book TWO (Reward 30,000 exp pool) begins with:
The quest starts in a lighted, underground, passageway that leads to Holendar's, the Guildmaster, north of Varg. But to get to this beginning, from the city of Varg, go east to the coast and follow it a distance north. Southwest of the cemetery is a squarish valley. In the northwest corner of this valley is a trap door. (Sextant reading - 875,1063) Enter this trap door.
The underground passageway is not a great threat. Once down in it, go west and you will come to a large square room, take the north hallway, and follow it all the way up until it turns west, then north, west, south, and west, which goes to a smaller room with a ladder in it. Take the ladder up. At this point get out of attack mode so you don't accidently attack anyone in this area. In the large room you will find Malmondrik and some guards. Speak to Malmondrik by clicking on him.
The conversation with Malmondrik:
Malmondrik: Ah, I see you have found the first book. You are doing well.
-Continue-
Malmondrik: Now the second book you must find is called “Borak’s Book of Leadership”.
-Continue-
Malmondrik: Seek Borak’s Book of Leadership south of here in the town of Varg. Borak himself can give you the clues to its location.
-Continue-
You are finished here. Now journey to the town of Varg and searching you will find in the Government Building (it's the building just west of the bank) the Lord of Varg, Borak.
The conversation with Borak in the town of Varg.
Borak: Hello, adventurer, welcome to the lost city of Varg!
-Continue-
Borak: Great adventurer, I see in your eyes that you have been searching for Borak’s Book of Leadership. Is that True?
- -Yes, I have been on the quest of leadership for quite some time.-
- -No, I am just passing through.-
Player: Yes, I have been on the quest of leadership for quite some time.
Borak: I remember an aging warrior that guarded the catacombs around Hothbra. One day he ventured into the crypt with a valiant warrior to defend the city, and never returned. That is all that I can recall from the ancient legend.
-Continue-
Borak: And remember, you must imbibe from the fountain. Wish you luck in your quest; you’ve only just begun….
-Continue-
Borak: Please visit our many merchants here in Varg. I am sure they can accommodate some of your equipment needs.
-Continue-
You are finished here. Your journey is to now go to the town of Hothbra. For this wear your best armor and a strong weapon, as you'll need to hack and slash though any spawns. This is a timed quest so don't bother to stop to fight if you don't have to, as speed is of the essence.
Once in the town of Hothbra and searching for anything 'down' that might go to catacombs, you'll find in the back room of the magic shop a 'trap door' in the floor at the NE corner. Go down the trap door and you'll be in a small room. Follow the hall, it will go south and then west, and you come to a blood fountain near a group of fallen rocks blocking your path. If you double click the fountain, imbibing, you'll be teleported to the other side of the fallen rocks. At this point you are alone. No one else can get teleported across as long as another player is already there, and if they double click the fountain they will see the message that '<name of player> is running though the halls'.
Once across the rocks, continue west to get to an intersection. North is a door where you will find the Wraith NPC. But before you speak with him, notice the layout of the corridors. Straight west will take you directly into the 'top' door in the west corridor. Going south you'll see the 'middle' door' and farther south is the 'bottom' door. The hall then goes directly east and into the 'bottom' door of the east corridor. Turn north and you will pass the 'middle' door of the east corridor as you continue up to where you started, with the door north of you as the one leading to the Wraith NPC. The corridors form a square with you starting in the NE corner of it. Now, speak to the Wraith NPC about his leader Talazar.
The conversation with the Wraith NPC:
The Undead Hero: Beware!
-Continue-
The Undead Hero: I am the Hero of Hothbra!
-Continue-
- -Why do you haunt this place?-
- -You are no hero!-
- -I am sorry for disturbing your rest.-
Player: Why do you haunt this place?
The Undead Hero: I left my physical body during the Rune Wars. I stood at the side of Talazar, our hero and defender of the Crown. I took a blade to save his life. Some beast thought they would slay my brave patron.
- -Your lord Talazar now serves evil.-
- -It was a brave thing that you did.-
- -Bah, I would give my life for no man.-
Player: It was a brave thing that you did.
The Undead Hero: Bravery represents the weak; honor represents the true. One must always honor their leaders. If you truly seek the ability to command, you must be agile as well as intelligent. You must know when to fight and when to concede.
-Continue-
The Undead Hero: The Book of Leadership is only 6 doors away, the decisions your mind makes are critical. Choose well and you will succeed.
-Continue-
The Undead Hero: You will begin when I say, no sooner.
-Continue-
(Wait till you see “venture forth” in your main chat window for you to begin running. At this point your being timed, so speed is of the essence.)
Once he sends you on your way, run to the door in the middle of the west vertical corridor, go in and double click the blood fountain. Now, run to the door in the middle of the east vertical corridor, and double click the blood fountain. Then, run to the door at the top-west and double click that blood fountain. Run to the door at the bottom-west and double click the blood fountain, then run to the bottom-east door, double click the last blood fountain. (The sequence is: West Middle, East Middle, West Top, West Bottom, East Bottom)
THEN, while in the last (5th) room, you can go through the final (6th) door located at the bottom right of the 5th room your standing in. Follow the hall to find the actual book itself.
If you take too long to get between the fountains, you'll be sent to the far side of the original fountain and have to start over by re-clicking the blood fountain again to teleport you past the rock barrier.
Book:
In the following excerpts, I have written the tale of following a great leader. ‘How do you qualify?’ does one ask? Well, let us just say that I have known him for many moons. My first recollection of his greathood was during his initiation into manhood. As with all of the men before him, he was sent out to the vast wasteland and was forced to live in solitude for his entire 16th year. During the fall of said year, the great evil extended its boundaries and attempted to overwhelm the prosperous cities. Many sentries saw the massive campfires of this evil being established during the nights from the castle walls and sent parties of scouts to investigate; only one survivor ever returned from a scouting party. This sole survivor spoke of horrendous creatures that attacked his party. The monsters of the night captured and burned anything and anyone they could catch. He stated the only reason his life was spared was because another army attacked and destroyed this band of evil. Their attack was fast and furious. Before the evil knew it, three-fourths of their army was lifeless. He also stated that even though he could not see the face of this worthy adversary, he had seen those eyes before and the voice was that of a young man. During that year scores of cities reported the acts of this savior. However, no one ever caught a glimpse of this redeemer. As quick as the liberations began, they ended upon the anniversary of this great leader’s rite of passage. None can say for sure it was him, but let your heart lead your eyes and you will know the right answer.
Exp: 30,000
You have learned one more trait of being a leader.
You have completed this quest successfully.
(You have now finished Book 2. Return to Malmondrik, getting there the same way you did originally so you can get the clues to begin Book 3.)
