This is the Book 1 quest as documented by Apache on Legends Server, assisted by Jane Fox. March, 2005
Book ONE (Reward: 20,000 exp pool) begins with:
The quest starts in a lighted, underground, passageway that leads to Holendar's, the Guildmaster, north of Varg. But to get to this beginning, from the city of Varg, go east to the coast and follow it a distance north. Southwest of the cemetery is a squarish valley. In the northwest corner of this valley is a trap door. (Sextant reading - 875,1063) Enter this trap door.
The underground passageway is not a great threat. Once down in it, go west and you will come to a large square room, take the north hallway, and follow it all the way up until it turns west, then north, west, south, and west, which goes to a smaller room with a ladder in it. Take the ladder up. At this point get out of attack mode so you don't accidently attack anyone in this area. In the large room you will find Malmondrik and some guards. Speak to Malmondrik by clicking on him.
The conversation with Malmondrik:
Malmondrik: Welcome, great one! My name is Malmondrik
-Continue-
Malmondrik: I believe you seek Holendar, the Guildmaster. He has hidden himself from the world.
- -I seek to start a guild-
- -You are not who I am looking for -
Player: I seek to start a guild.
Malmondrik: So you wish to start a guild. That is very noble and brave of you. Holendar is the only one who can help you. However, you must prove to me that you are worthy of his audience.
-Continue-
Malmondrik: Only a true leader can be the leader of a guild. So what I ask of you is that you seek out the four books of the Lords. These books are scattered throughout the land.
-Continue-
Malmondrik: I will send you to each one, and you must find them and read each word contained within.
Then you must return to me, and I will disclose the location of the next book. After you have read all 4 books, I shall give you a note with my signature.
-Continue-
Malmondrik: Only with the note will Holendar speak with you.
-Continue-
Malmondrik: The first book you will seek is “The Tome of Kargoth.”
-Continue-
Malmondrik: You can find the key to the location of “The Tome of Kargoth” in the town of Jeel. The people know Kargoth and they will tell you where to find this book.
-Continue-
You are finished here. Leave the Guildmaster the same way you came, and journey to Jeel.
Obviously you would start questioning the towns people as per the Guildmaster's instructions. Eventually in your search you should get to the inn, as you search it for people to talk to, there is a man in one of the rooms sleeping. (On the Non-PVP Server it's the top right room.) Speak to the man in the bed until he finally goes to sleep.
The conversation with the sleeping man in Jeel:
Sleeping Person: Oooohhhh, food and sleep is what I need. I was gone for too long and neglected my health.
- -Do you need me to get some food?-
- -Are you in good health?-
- -Do you wish me to leave you alone?-
Player: Are you in good health?
Sleeping Person: My health is only lacking sleep and food: I will sleep now and dine when my stamina is replenished.
-Continue-

(Note: if you continue to ask about his health it will continue to repeat this segment.)
Player: Do you need me to get some food?
Sleeping Person: That is very kind of you; however sleeping is what I need. I must get some sleep to heal my slight wounds from the search.
- -Do you need me to fetch a healer?-
- -I can see you are injured; I will leave you now-
Player: Do you need me to fetch a healer?
Sleeping Person: You are too kind, young adventure. I do not need a healer….what I need is some sleep. Please return once I awake and we will exchange travel stories…

(Screen starts over. Click on the man again to nudge him.)

(Don’t nudge Franklin too quickly, you will wake him up and he will yell at you. Time interval between nudges should work out to be 3 to 5 seconds. To late a nudge will also have him yelling at you.)

Sleeping Person: Franklin rolls over and you leave to let him sleep. You’ve gotten all the information you are going to get out of him.
Once you get this last message you are finished here. Since two of the clues given are 'bones' and 'ancient' you might think 'graveyard', and not being told to journey from the Jeel area, the closest thing to this is the Krypt of Kargoth. You will need to take a light source of some kind and may wish to bring some friends as having talked to the sleeping man triggers the spawns you'll run into from this point. Also working the switches might be easier with one player near the door as the switch is flipped for it to open. Once inside he can then flip the switch for others to also enter as the door is timed to close automaticly.
The Krypt of Kargoth is east of Jeel. (Sextant reading 435,860) Go down the ladder at the entrance, then go south through the two doors and into a fair sized room. At SE corner of this room, in the EAST wall is a secret passage to a cave. Once inside the cave you'll see the NPC Lord Kargoth and his guard of zombies. Carefully walk between them as they don't move, but if you come close to them they will attack you.
The conversation with Lord Kargoth:
Lord Kargoth: I have no use for you.
-Continue-
Lord Kargoth: Be gone.
-Continue-
(He will not give you any useful information so now you continue on. The easy way to work your way though this maze of tunnels is to just follow the left (north) wall until you come to a switch. You must flip the switch and quickly run south (still keeping the wall to your left) to a door that will only remain open for a short period of time. Inside you will find the chest. Double click on the chest.)
Chest:
The tome that was once kept here has been stolen! It must be hidden deep in this dungeon….
-Continue-
(Searching the small room to the west side of the chest is a secret passage. Once inside the narrow halls, continue until you find another room with the “The Tome of Kargoth” inside of it.)
The Book:
Lord Kargoth, the great leader of Jeel, stood strong before his people. He vanquished the Orc tribes that once threatened the city. He stood his ground and fought for his people. His life meant nothing without the freedom of the people of Jeel. His lord had appointed a new Knight who proved to be a superior warrior. When this Knight’s travels brought him to Jeel, everyone praised his arrival. He helped eradicate the evils around Jeel with his army. And for this, great honor and admiration were bestowed upon him. I vowed to uphold the Oath I took when I became Lord. I assembled my army and sword this great town of Jeel would never fall into the hands of evil.
Many, many moons later this great Knight came and told me that the King wished for me to join his army to cleanse the land of the final evil…
While I was gone, I turned my leadership over to my son, who I hope will honor and respect your laws of the land.
[You notice different handwriting.]
Lord Kargoth never returned from his great battle. May his weary body someday rest in peace.
-Lord Canthon, Son of the Great Lord Kargoth
Exp: 20,000
You have learned one more trait of being a leader.
(You have now finished Book 1. There is another switch on the wall that will allow you to get back out of the room with the chest. Just follow the north wall (now on your right side) til you backtrack your way out of the cave, then back through the secret entrance in the wall, and north to the ladder, up, and out. Then return to Malmondrik, the guildmaster, that you spoke to at the beginning of this quest, above Varg, getting there the same way you did originally so you can get the clues to begin Book 2.)
